Tamara Jugov

Tamara Jugov has studied Politics, Philosophy, and Political Theory in Berlin, Amsterdam and London. She holds a Master of Science in Political Theory from LSE and received her PhD in 2014 from the Goethe-University Frankfurt. Her dissertation is entitled “Grounds of Duties of Justice in Non-Institutional Contexts” (Supervisors: Stefan Gosepath and Rainer Forst). In it Tamara develops a Kant-inspired practice-dependent approach, according to which practices of structural domination can ground duties of justice even in contexts where political institutions do not exist, such as in failed states or in areas of the global order solely regulated by private law.

While working on her PhD, Tamara held positions as a research associate both at the Free University of Berlin (at the Collaborative Research Centre 700 “Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood” with Prof. Ladwig) and at the Centre of Excellence “Normative Orders”, Goethe University Frankfurt (with Prof. Gosepath). During her doctoral studies she was also a visiting scholar at the Centre for the Study of Social Justice at Oxford University and at the Research School for Social Sciences at the Australian National University in Canberra. Since 2014 Tamara has been working at the Centre of Advanced Studies “Justitia Amplificata” as a permanent research fellow.

Tamara has been awarded both student and doctoral fellowships from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).

Tamara’s main research interests lie in the area of global and applied justice. She is particularly interested in questions of structural injustice, theories of power, domination, and freedom, as well as in meta-theoretical questions concerning “non-ideal” theory.
